 Eureka! Stories from Archimedes

One of the greatest figures of ancient Greek mathematics, and generally of ancient and medieval science, Archimedes, is presented in this programme. Through interactive virtual experiments visitors learn about the theorem for calculating the volume of the sphere in combination with the law of balance of the scales, the principle of hydrostatics and the famous incident of "eureka", the invention of the screw for transferring water from a lower to a higher level, the story about the parabolic mirrors, but also the Iron Hand or Claw, which were used to capsize the Roman ships. The programme is being developed as part of the exhibition "Is There An Answer To Everything? A journey to the world of Greek mathematics".
